With wool felted onto a loosely woven fabric, such as silk, the scarf takes on an ‘elephant skin’ texture, and will be a colorful, contemporary addition to your outfit! You will make this scarf in a half-day workshop, but you will learn a technique that can be used for scarves and shawls, and sewn into dresses, jackets and skirts.
About the instructor: Gail Maraman’s interest in fiber art began when she first started caring for a small flock of sheep. She quickly became fascinated with dyeing and transforming her sheep’s wool into practical, and sometimes whimsical, felt designs. Over the years, she has studied numerous felting techniques, including traditional wet felting, needle felting, and Nuno felting, as well as techniques for using both natural and synthetic dyes with natural fibers. By combining these techniques, Gail has produced a line of fashionable felt accessories. While tending her sheep, Gail observes nature’s many colors, textures, and dimensions and employs these observations in her work. Nature provides her with inspiration as well as many of the supplies that she uses to make felt. Gail is continuously challenged to explore the world of felt. She also likes to teach and share her felt discoveries with interested students of all ages.
